First: I got the same error in the tittle of this tread but in Karmic K. I can confirm that this bug does not happen at alpha 4 with the kernel 2.6.26. With a little help from the wiki I actually installed that thing again and now DVDs play. I am sure that my drive is old as my computer is old too.

Close all other unnecessary programs, I.E. However runs fine on VmWare.
