For the record, I WOULD NOT update the BIOS until AFTER you have the fan installed and you are able to boot the system consistently. This was a perfect and VERY economical fix. Just zeroed in on the DEV/ERR/FRU stuff. Social Sharing Find TechSpot on... So I put my homemade CMOS battery in (cut the leads off my old one and heat shrinked them to a 2025 cell) and everything is working now I also upgraded I promised this laptop to a friend, and just before I sent it, it died.

Putting it back together is a bit of a cheap hack but it seems to work well enough.
