It didn't make any difference if the connection when through vCenter or directly to the ESX host. Is this the correct way og are there any other and better way to do the upload. You can download files via web browser. Hit a curb; chewed up rim and took a chunk out of tire.

Search pulled up a thread with similar behavior. As of VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 6, VMware has fixed this issue. Vmware support told me that datastore uploads/downloads are not really supported.
