Both discs worked perfectly fine. How could this happen? I know from years gone by that safedisc / securom type protection on game CDs would make a drive throw up errors like that early on in a read operation and I guess it comes down to how much tolerance a given player has for deviation from the specifications.

what could be the issue after that .. Nevertheless, RipIt4Me and DVDFabDecrypter worked no problem. Can anybody help me? i get the ISO file from decryptor and then i go back to shrink as i cannot burn with decryptor becoz of the size issue (4.7 gb) ..
I'm just getting frustrated because of my lack of knowledge about this and all the different explanations I am getting for burning this. Power it off immediately, get a new boot drive, install a new OS on the new boot drive. However, when I play the original DVD on my standalone DVD player, it works fine, but I just hear my DVD player working harder and getting louder. It will interfere with the process RipIt4Me is using. When you get to the layer break selection part, the original layer break should be listed, probably with a green star next to it.

I think those three possibilities are far, far more likely than you uncovering a fatal flaw in EXT4; it's just been beaten on too hard. They also have DVDFab Platinum which i believe will rip to an ISO, but i'm not sure about the control file as i've never used it to rip to an ISO.
The other two games both gave me I/O errors before it even started making the ISO file. Once that is working, plug in the failing drive, mount it "read only" and you might be able to extract data from it. becoz i normally get errors when i have my ISO image already created either with shrink or with decryptor ... ISO-MDS is a holdover from kinder, gentler times.
