So, by far one of the most bizzare fix suggestions I've ran into, and also one of the most effective. Also told me my printer would be too old (the 1-year warranty has expired in dec. 2007????)and I must bring in the printer to HP. The one I use puts out over 1200 degrees, but people have had success using ordinary hair dryers. They have said they heat the connections very carefully to 400 degrees. navigate here

Make sure the computer has the most current printer drivers, or use a generic printer driver. If they do you pay nothing and the service provider gets a small fee from hp which also provides the replacment part at no charge. It is the defective TOSHIBA chip on the top middle of the formatter board & usually there is a white sticker over the chip.
