It does not remove the BIOS itself, only the user defined settings within the CMOS. I'd try disconnecting the power and cable and then see if I can get to the BIOS? If the test hangs in the DOS environment, then probably there is something else wrong, also. i hope there wasn't any important information on there. I have ordered an HDD enclosure which should be here in about a week but I have no way to test the mobo.

Place the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay. When the test is complete the results are displayed on the screen.

The HP Hard Drive Self Test will detect and repair these errors but will not produce a detailed report of all the actions taken. While running the test on hdd, it passed 2 out of 3 tests and failed or rather got stuck on surface scan test.
Strange, people on this same site told me that Sleep was fine for SSDs, that it was Hibernate that wasn't good. Why did it suddenly decide to die for no reason whatsoever? Then disconnect your WD if the problem persists with the DVD drive.
